8 Tips on How to Compliment a Girl

Ever feel like you want to appreciate the girl you like through your words but don’t know how? You keep having those doubts in your mind thinking if your comment is too straightforward or insulting.

Complimenting her is very important especially when you want to make a lasting impression. But it is so much easier said than done. So to help you out, here are 8 tips on how to compliment a girl.

1. Be respectful when giving compliments.
This is most likely the most important thing when expressing your admiration for someone. If you respect her as a person who has valuable opinions and feelings, then whatever comes from your mouth would probably be fine with her.

Remember that there’s a thin line between compliments and insult. Avoid demeaning comments that would hurt her, assess your comment first before saying it.

2. Be genuine.
Being genuine is important when giving compliments because it really shows that you absolutely mean what you are saying. Girls can sense if you are not sincere in what you’re saying. They might not say it but they can really sense it.

Also, compliments should be done from the heart. Knowing that someone appreciates you truthfully and with sincerity makes someone really feel happy.

3. Compliment at appropriate times.
There’s always a right time and a right place for everything. If she’s still talking to someone, don’t go out there and start giving out your compliment. It would look and sound rude. Compliment her when she’s not doing something else that way she can also appreciate what you said.

Make sure that your compliment is related to what you are talking about and proper for the situation. Wrong comments in a wrong situation tend to be unbecoming to girls.

4. Find things to compliment about her.
Girls do a lot of stuff, find something that you know she really values or treasure. You can compliment her on the things they are passionate about, or the things they fight for. Any person would feel really happy when they know that the things they do are appreciated.

Compliment her personality; when you are on a date, try complimenting how beautiful or gorgeous she looks. Girls take time on fixing and preparing themselves on a date, so it would really make their heart flutter when they know you noticed it.

5. Have a warm expression when complimenting her.
Girls notice the way you look when complimenting her. Make sure that you maintain an eye contact and smile at her when you are saying something. That way, she wouldn’t feel uncomfortable knowing that you only said that out of pressure.

The tone of your voice is also a factor. Saying things in a non-sarcastic way would brush off the awkward feeling between the both of you. The best compliment doesn’t leave any room for misunderstandings.

6. Learn to accept rejections.
Not all girls would react positively when they are complimented. Some will just shrug it off or worse, not say anything at all. This is normal especially when you don’t know the girl fully yet. The right thing to do is to tell her that she doesn’t need to believe you, but what you said came out of pure sincerity and admiration.

If you think she got a little bit offended about your comment, don’t try to act rudely in front of her. Instead, apologize nicely and respectfully. Acting impolitely might ruin the conversation.

7. Know when it’s becoming a cat-call and not a compliment.
She might get the wrong idea when you express your compliments through yelling. It might sound like a cat-call and not all girls like that, even for someone you already know. Make sure that it doesn’t come off like that for it will make her feel highly insulted.

8. Compliment her generously, but not too much.
Everything has its own limitation. Giving compliments is sweet but it would seem bad if you do it excessively. Make sure that you do it at a suitable amount so that it will not be mistaken as a joke or a halfhearted comment. Remember, you praise someone because you want to make her special not to make you look and feel good about yourself.
