Selena Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, breaks her silence in regards to her daughter’s on-again relationship with Justin Bieber.
The mother of 25-year-old singer/actress spoke with Gossip Cop about the couple’s reconciliation. Gomez and Bieber, who were a powerhouse duo up until their 2014 breakup, have rekindled their flame as of last October, when Gomez ended her relationship with singer The Weeknd. The couple was photographed bike riding with one another and locking lips at one of Bieber’s hockey games, pictured below.
Although many have mixed feelings about the two getting back together, no one is holding back how they truly feel more than Gomez’s mom, Teefey. She told Gossip Cop that she is “not happy” the two have gotten back together but understands that Selena can do as she wants as long as she is “happy, safe and healthy”.
Teefey continued by saying that Gomez is an adult and can very much make her own decisions, but is still cautious considering she knows what is at stake concerning Gomez’s health. Gomez, who has battled with lupus for some time now, just recently received a kidney transplant from her friend, Francia Raisa, during the summer of last year.
Teefey described her daughter as “brave and fearless” during the difficult time, but mentioned how she did not speak with Bieber during Gomez’s surgery and how they have not spoken for “years” before that. It seems as if Bieber may not have left the best impression on Gomez’s mom.
Although the star herself has yet to comment on what her mother has said, it is no surprise that any mother and daughter disagree at times. Teefey discussed how little time the two have spent with one another and how the only times they would see each other, they would talk strictly business. Teefey says she finds Selena’s busy career and schedule “no longer fun for any of us, like it was when she was younger”, considering mom had to attend all business ventures when Gomez was a minor.
Teefey ended the interview by claiming she does not intend nor expect to manage Selena’s whole life, but is disheartened over the family time that has been lost. Any rift between a mother and her daughter can be hard, especially when you’re in the public eye. There have been no major developments regarding the on-again couple, but we can only hope that Selena and her mother come to some sort of understanding.
