The Way to a Woman’s Heart is Through Her Funny Bone

Have you ever heard a girl enumerate the list of traits she looks for in a guy? Ask any girl out there and you’re sure to hear this on their list 9 out of 10 times: HUMOR. Most of you who don’t have the gift of laughter in your system may be wondering, what about other attractive traits like money, power and a hot body?

Sadly, those three things are only as good as the women who prioritize them – basically, not worth s***. If you truly are looking for an awesome woman to spend the night or the rest of your life with, you need to hone the basic skillsets that encourage more than just superficial preening.

Women want men who are sensitive – meaning a man who is intuitive and tactful. They also want men who are intelligent – meaning a man who has common sense. And most of all, they want a man who is funny. Why is the last one just as important? Because a guy who can make a girl laugh has the biggest chance of actually making her happy.

Why is being funny so important?

Being funny is not just about being able to tell a good joke or a perfectly-timed pun. It is also about having a sense of humor without having to say anything rehearsed. When we say women want guys who are funny, what we are saying is that a guy has to know when to laugh and how to let everyone in on the joke.

Women started liking funny guys when they started seeing comedians. No matter what those comedians looked like, they always end up getting a girl in the end. Basically, you don’t even have to look like a Greek god before sharpening your funny bone. You just have to know how to laugh off the fact that you don’t look like one.

The secret as to why women like funny guys is this: SCIENCE. Happiness is not exactly an ethereal concept that has no tangible roots. Those roots are tangible, all right. And they’re situated in a tiny part of your brain that controls every bit of your emotions.

Laughing releases endorphins and those hormones are actually known to lessen pain or alleviate it entirely. Most women don’t know these details per se, but they are instinctually aware that a guy who can make them laugh inexplicably makes them happier.

Funny relationships

Women know the risks of being in a relationship. Aside from getting the scoop on everyone else’s heartbreaking stories through the media and their daily chats with their girlfriends, women have experienced the difference between seeing a guy who has no sense of humor and a guy who has one.

There is a significant gap between their outlook on life and how they interact with the people around them. When seeing a guy with an obvious sense of humor, dates tend to go more successfully, because there is less tension thanks to their propensity for laughter.

Being funny also gives them an upper hand when it comes to conversations. They don’t even have to tell a joke to make a girl laugh. Their tone says it all. A guy who tends to close up and take things too seriously, on the other hand, usually ends up creating unnecessary tension and rarely manages to express his feelings through his words.

I’m not saying that women shouldn’t date guys who don’t know how to be funny. I’m just saying that women are more likely to stay with men who can learn to grow into their sense of humor. If you don’t know how to tell a joke, at least learn how to take one. Laugh at someone who fell, but help them afterward. Giggle when someone farts. Guffaw when you fart, so no one will notice. Just be an instinctively happy individual, and everything will go smoothly with your relationships.

How to be funny

There are schools for that sort of problem… and then there’s LovePanky. If you want to learn how to be funny, you need to step up your game and fix yourself up before you start shelling out Knock-knock jokes to every attractive woman you see. Here’s how:

#1 Fix or forget your problems. Most people who don’t know how to laugh are those who think that they have no reason to laugh. Some of them are in the midst of personal or worldly problems that don’t leave room for a giggle or two.

You can either prioritize your problems, then find a way fix them immediately, or put them on the back burner and save some time out of your busy schedule to just go out and have fun with a girl that you like. In order to be funny, you need to learn how to laugh at your problems, if possible, and show your partner that you can still have a good time.

#2 Don’t keep it to yourself. When you think something’s funny, share it with someone you’re with. Don’t just laugh in your head, while keeping a completely stoic face. No one’s going to boo you off your spot in the office chair just because they don’t get the joke. At least you laughed about it, and people might just laugh with you through the sheer joy of hearing an extremely corny joke.

#3 Learn from the greats or just enjoy their shows. The internet has thousands of clips of the greatest comedians on earth in their best shows. All you have to do is Google them and spend at least three minutes laughing your butt off.

Some comedians utilize self-deprecation countered with sarcastic arrogance. Some comedians mock bad people in the world. Some comedians even do impressions of everyone and everything. Whatever their method is, you can learn from them, and see which one works best for you. You don’t need to take notes and look for an opening to tell the same jokes. You can just tell your date about this video you saw and tell her all about it. Funny stories are just as good as the actual joke.

#4 Delivery is not a problem. People think that being funny is all about what to say and how to say it. I’d say that’s not the exact science to it. I’ve heard people saying a perfectly good joke using a bland and dreary voice, after which I ended up laughing until I almost exploded.

I think what made those jokes funny was the fact that they really were funny, and that the person who told it was kind enough to share it. It didn’t matter how it was said. It could have been lost in context and it’d still be funny. The attempt itself could even make it funny. Funny things are subjective, but subjectively pointing out that they’re funny? That’s the real deal.

#5 Know what’s funny and what’s not. There are some things that, no matter how funny any one person thinks it is, someone else might think that it’s not. Most of the time, these are racist jokes, s*xist jokes, death jokes, bomb threat jokes – you get what I’m saying?

Now, if you really want to make somebody laugh and not offend them, try laughing about yourself, but only if the topic does not involve the person you’re talking to. Try joking about something that’s already been joked about by thousands of people – but only if it’s not yet passé or if no one else has killed the buzz on the comment threads.
